Call for InfoDesign Associate Editors

The Brazilian Information Design Society (SBDI) invites distinguished design researchers to apply for positions as Associate Editors on the Editorial Board of InfoDesign <infodesign.org.br>.

About InfoDesign
Launched in 2004, InfoDesign is an open-access,  peer-reviewed scholarly journal published three times a year. Its mission is to disseminate theoretical, methodological, and applied research in the field of information design. 

The journal is indexed in major international databases and directories, including Scopus, the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), and Latindex, helping to increase the visibility and discoverability of the research it publishes. 

InfoDesign  provides a platform for scholarly discussion of how information is organized, structured, and communicated through verbal, visual, and multimodal forms. It seeks to advance knowledge on the design, production, interpretation, and use of information across diverse contexts.

The journal  welcomes contributions addressing topics including, but not limited to:

  • Theory and history of information design, including conceptual frameworks, methods, and historiographical and critical perspectives on the field;
  • Design, development, and evaluation of information and communication systems,  including documents, interfaces, visualizations, diagrams, maps, signage systems, and digital environments. Contributions in this area should be grounded in theoretical frameworks and critical inquiry, and should articulate insights, principles, or findings that contribute to a broader understanding beyond the specific case examined;
  • Technology and society, including the technological, cultural, and social impacts of information design;
  • Education, including research on teaching and learning processes related to information design, and on  the use of information design in educational contexts;
  • Information-related literacies, including visual, information, graphic, and data literacy, particularly in relation to how people interpret, understand, and use designed information.

The journal encourages interdisciplinary dialogue and welcomes contributions from researchers in fields such as design, communication, computer science, information science, human-computer interaction, education, and related fields.

Associate Editors Responsibilities
Associate Editors will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor to:

  • Oversee the double-blind peer-review process for assigned manuscripts;
  • Identify qualified peer reviewers; 
  • Assess the quality and relevance of reviewers’ reports;
  • Make editorial recommendations based on the manuscript and the reviewers’ comments;
  • Facilitate communication among reviewers, authors, and the Managing Editor
  • Help ensure that the review process is fair, rigorous, constructive, and timely. 

Expectations and terms of appointment

Associate Editors are expected to handle at least two manuscripts per year. In addition, Editorial Board members are encouraged to actively promote the journal within their academic networks and support the submission of high-quality work. 

Associate Editors should attend twice-yearly Editorial Board meetings, which are typically held online. Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential, as submissions and editorial activities are conducted exclusively in English.

Appointments are for a renewable two-year term. During their term, Associate Editors will receive complimentary membership in the Brazilian Information Design Society (SBDI).

Eligibility 

Applications are welcome from researchers based anywhere in the world, provided they have reliable internet access. 

Applicants should:

  •  hold a PhD;
  •  have expertise in information design or a related field; and
  • have an established record of scholarly publication relevant to the journal’s scope;  

Experience in academic publishing, peer review, or editorial activities is desirable.

Applications will be evaluated  by a Selection Committee composed of SBDI board members and current InfoDesign Editorial Board members.  Candidates will be assessed according to their qualifications, experience, alignment with the Associate Editor role,  and contribution to the overall balance of expertise represented on the Editorial Board.
